"Faber: Portugal Debt Default Would Kill Euro

Investors should expect to see more sovereign debt defaults, says Marc Faber, the editor of The Gloom Boom & Doom Report.
He said sovereign debt defaults occur after a financial crisis.
The countries to look out for now are Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece, and Spain.
Countries will have problems paying their debt, he told Yahoo Tech Ticker.
Portugal and other countries have a great likelihood of defaulting occurring even as soon as the next two years, he said.
Defaults from those countries could also kill the euro, Faber said.
Confidence in Greece is waning as its deficit rises and credit ratings are slashed, Reuters reported. Greek’s weak economy is affecting the euro.
“What is really crushing the euro is additional concern about the serviceability of the massive amount of debt rung up in Greece,” said Dan Cook, a senior market analyst at IG Markets in Chicago.
While that issue remains up in the air, “we will likely see a lot of selling pressure on the euro,” he said.
Last month, Moody’s Investors Service and two other major agencies decreased Greece's debt rating, Dow Jones reported.
Moody’s said that Portugal and Greece, which both have high levels of debt, could experience a “slow death” while much of the countries’ money is needed to pay back its debt.
Investor sentiment about the ability of Greece to repay its debt is waning.
“The central bank has clearly chosen to maintain its pressure on the Greek government, rather than easing the heightened tensions in bond markets,” said Laurent Bilke, a former ECB economist now at Nomura International PLC in London."
Para financiar todos estes "subsídios", e programas, e ajudas, e o caralho, o Governo terá que contraír muito mais DÍVIDA (para já não falar nos TGVs e autoestradas) ao mesmo tempo que sobe impostos e aumenta a repressão e perseguição fiscal a quem tem património! Vai ser bonito!

Como é lógico, não podia deixar de comentar mais um extraordinário jogo do Hulk. Realmente é um jogador fora de série, conseguiu enganar os adeptos, alguns criticos, o treinador do Manchester, etc.... . Até o pintinho foi enganado pelo brasuca, o que não é normal, pois apesar de ser adepto do Benfica, reconheço que o nosso amigo pintinho é o melhor dirigente do futebol português. Falando agora do porto, nem a roubar conseguem ganhar e mais uma vez surgiu uma mão na bola que só o sr. arbitro viu.
Que tal uma jantarada no sábado no melosinha e terminar com um Poker ou uma guitarrada. Vou ver se faço umas papas de sarrabulho.

"I paid $3.4 million for the house in 2006, and it was worth every penny at the time. It's 6,700 square feet with a pool and a one- acre lot. I'm on the hill overlooking the fourth fairway, and I can see all the way to [the next city] from my bedroom window," Don continued.
"Wachovia Bank loaned me $3 million, and the developer took a second for $400,000. I don't have any skin in the game – so to speak. I made my mortgage payments for a while, but when prices started to fall, it just didn't make sense anymore. I mean, why should I pay anything when I'm the only one with nothing to lose?"
"But," I asked, "hasn't the bank tried to foreclose or force a sale of the house out from under you?"
"Ha!" He crowed, and his tone emphasized the naiveté of my question. "Why would they do that? The house is worth less than $2 million right now. So if the bank forecloses, it'll have to recognize a $1 million loss. And if it writes my loan down by that much, how many other loans do you suppose it'll have to write down? It can't force a short sale [where the bank sells the house for less than the loan amount] on me either because it'll have to take care of the second note holder by offering him something just to get out of the way. So Wachovia is screwed. It's cheaper for them to let me keep living there for free. And the best thing is, I can more than afford to pay off the entire loan right now." Don let out a sinister kind of chuckle, like a man who just squashed a bug and got some warped sense of delight from doing it.
"Wow," I responded. "There used to be a time when being a deadbeat was frowned upon. But you seem to wear it as a badge of honor."
"Listen," Don turned aggressively and pointed his index finger at me. "You think I'm the only one doing this? You think I'm the only one taking advantage of the situation? I'll bet half the people in this room are doing the exact same thing." He waved his arm across the bar. "And the other half are thinking about doing it."
"Besides," Don continued, "banks have been screwing people like us for so long it's about time they got a taste of their own medicine."
His words hit me like a Louisville Slugger across the forehead.
We no longer live in a time where men are bound by honor to repay their debts. As sad as it is, people feel justified welching on their agreements.
And the banks have played a big role in this transition. They charged 29% interest on credit cards while paying 0% interest on savings. They knowingly lent money to people who could not afford to pay it back. They used taxpayer-funded bailouts to pay million-dollar bonuses to their corporate elite. And they shipped all of their service-center jobs overseas.
Let's face it: The banks most of us do business with today aren't like the Building and Loan George Bailey operated in "It's a Wonderful Life". Our banks are faceless, nameless, brown bag institutions whose only concern for the customer is to make sure he pays the $10 monthly account service fee.
It is that business practice that has fostered the resentment of people like Don and made him feel justified breaking his agreement. Like it or not, agree with it or not, Don's opinion is gaining popularity.
And as that sentiment grows, it is likely to provide the weight that pulls the second shoe down onto the industry."

Aqui está uma evidência espetacular das conseqências do Socialismo! Deparado com muito mais despesas (fruto de milhões de programas sociais que "compram" votos e principalmente disciplina e anuência) do que receitas, Chávez já não tem qualquer hipótese!
Aqui está um exemplo fabuloso de como com uma simples assinatura se rouba 2/3 da poupança da classe média e baixa! Chávez acaba de desvalorizar o bolívar e assim roubar indirectamente as poupanças do pobo e directamente o seu poder de compra! Uma vez que as receitas da Venezuela são obtidas na sua grande maioria em Dólares, via vendas de petróleo, e as faraónicas despesas com programas sociais (que apenas incentivam e recompensam o parasitismo!) são pagas em bolívares, para se poder continuar a pagar votos é simples... desvaloriza-se a moeda!

"Chávez se irrita com críticas à desvalorização da moeda venezuelana
Caracas, 9 jan (EFE).- O presidente da Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, criticou aqueles que preveem o fim do apoio popular à sua gestão por conta da desvalorização do bolívar, moeda local e que terá duas cotações oficiais a partir de segunda-feira.
"São pessoas da oposição nascidas na Venezuela, mas que não têm coração venezuelano, são apátridas e andam incomodados desde o anúncio da medida. Deixem-nos esperando", comentou.
Chávez comemorou que outros setores, incluindo um de empresários que também não foi identificado, e "outros que querem me derrubar", concordaram com a previsão de que a desvalorização do bolívar aumentará a produção nacional e trará vagas de trabalho.
O presidente informou ontem a desvalorização da moeda, que agora exibirá duas taxas oficiais frente ao dólar - uma decisão que surge em meio a uma grave crise energética e uma persistente inflação.
O chamado "bolívar forte" registrará assim sua primeira desvalorização desde que o Governo de Chávez o colocou em circulação em 1º de janeiro de 2008 no lugar do "bolívar velho", passando da paridade oficial atual única de 2,15 bolívares por dólar (2.150 bolívares "velhos"), para uma de 2,6 e outra de 4,3 bolívares.
Esta última dobrará a atual cotação e buscará combater uma extra-oficial que a triplica, toda vez que quem precisar de uma quantidade maior de divisas do que a ofertada pelo Estado e pagará esta semana mais de 6 bolívares, segundo a imprensa local.
A cotação de 2,6 bolívares regerá por sua vez para todas as importações do setor público e as requeridas por setores básicos e prioritários, entre eles o de alimentos, saúde e remessas, destacou Chávez.
"Estávamos vendendo dólares muito baratos e durante muito tempo, e muitos setores preferem assim porque podem importar mais barato em vez de aumentar os esforços para produzir aqui", disse Chávez ao justificar o aumento da cotação.
Noel Álvarez, presidente da Fedecámaras - organização empresarial da Venezuela conhecida por ser contra o regime do Presidente Hugo Chávez - disse que a medida provocaria um aumento da inflação e levaria o país a uma recessão econômica ainda maior que a atual.
"O ajuste deve ser visto no contexto gerado pelo modelo econômico que serve de base para o Governo nos últimos anos, segundo o qual prevalece o critério de gerar crescimento com base em um importante gasto fiscal, e em função da volatilidade dos preços do petróleo", disse Álvarez a uma rádio local.
Para o presidente da Fedecamáras, o anúncio prova "a ineficácia" de Chávez para controlar a inflação e evitar a saída de capitais, o que limita o investimento nacional e do exterior."

O post de hoje é mais seca, mas sem dúvida importante!
Leiam este bocadinho das ideias de um investidor Indiano que conheço (não Ringo! Não é o Pabrai! É Rahul Saraogi!).
É sempre bom ouvir (neste caso, ler) a perspectiva de alguém que habita numa realidade muito diferente da nossa - Mumbai, India:
"I travelled to Europe over the holidays. It is probably one of the stupidest things I've done in a long time. I left warm, pleasant and cheap Asia and travelled to cold, inhospitable and ridiculously expensive Europe. I travelled at a time when even the Europeans don't want to be in Europe. To add to it, Europe experienced its coldest December in forty or fifty years in 2009.
Some justification is in order. The holidays in the US, although cold, have a spirit to them. One can feel the bounce in people's steps and can see a cheer on their faces. The holiday spirit can be distinctly felt in the air. I guess I was longing for that holiday spirit, not having spent the holidays in the US in a long time. But since, I was recently in the US; I decided to head to Europe to experience that spirit.
I have some news from the old world. If there ever was any holiday spirit, it is dead and buried. People in Europe are sad, sullen, cheerless and downright depressed. People in Europe just don't want to work, period.
Things in Europe are absolutely and ridiculously expensive. I like spending time in grocery stores when I travel to get a feel for the place I am visiting. When Europeans are not rushing through their grocery purchases (trying to beat the 6.00 PM store closing deadline after work), they are getting fleeced on whatever they are buying.
With unemployment in the double digits in Europe, it is hard to imagine how anyone would stay alive in Europe without dole from the state. The cost structure of Europe is completely out of whack
There is absolutely NO WAY that anything will be manufactured in Europe 10 years from today. If one thinks that the US is non-competitive then Europe is not even in the game.
It is true that Europe manufactures a lot today. Whatever it manufactures gets sold at 3 or 4 times the price of competing products made in India or China. This is just not sustainable. As primary demand shifts to emerging countries, they will develop a home market advantage and manufacturing will have to move there. As critical mass is achieved in product after product in emerging countries, industries will have no option but to shut down in Europe. If Europe puts up protectionist barriers, the relative standard of living there will get decimated.
The coming decade is going to see a mega de-industrialization of Europe. Those European companies that want to survive will see the light and move manufacturing to emerging countries while their peers get destroyed by competitors from emerging countries.
If you manufacture anything in Europe, you should seriously look east."

Tuca, muito obrigado pela janta e pelo convivio que proporcionaste na passagem de ano, foi top como sempre.
Vejo que a febre do poker veio para ficar no universo canzanense. Gostei de ver aquela mesa na passagem de ano. O que também gostei de ver o post do Ringo já cheio de vida, mas é como o Millions diz, a feijões somos todos os maiores mas quando mete guita o caso muda de figura. Ringo, se quiseres juntar-te a nós estamos na bet and win ou no poker stars onde o dinheiro canta. Na passagem de ano cantou para mim, arrecadei uma boa quantia para começar bem o ano.
O outro desporto oficial da passagem de ano foi o tenis. TIRA O CASACO!!! Este não correu mal no dia, mas no dia seguinte paguei a factura, não foi só o vinho Irlandes que me fodeu a pinha, foi também a dor no braço as custa da raquete.
